Film Stills

I decided to construct a film still dealing with what many women young and old do before they go out in the morning or any time of day. Women make themselves look presentable by washing their face or showering, drying their hair, putting on makeup, and getting dressed up. And many men wonder why women take so long, its because they do so much just to prepare. However, I feel that women put this pressure on themselves of having to look good all the time. Whether it is pressure from society of competition, many including I feel that we have to make ourselves look good. I know I don't wear makeup all the time, but when I get dressed up makeup usually comes with the process. Sometimes I enjoy getting ready, but other times I think of how fast it takes a man to get ready and I wonder why don't they need to do anything so "special." They take a shower and get dressed, and shave occasionally. I chose to do this because I feel that it is important for people to realize the time that women put in to look pretty, because sometimes many look past this. Women are beautiful even without the makeup and everything, but they put the time in for a reason which should be noticed. I believe the pictures do a good job in showing just some of the main details that women perform to get ready.

PSA

I chose this picture that I displayed because it portrays a women's equality in our nation today. It just shows that one day a woman can represent our nation and be as strong any many would have been. I chose to place the saying on the computer because technology is always changing and becoming more important in our world today. Everything you do in everyday life involves technology. From driving you car, to using your cell phone technology is very useful. A women and technology can sort of go hand in hand. A women’s role today is so important and valued in our society. Even though many may think that it is impossible for a woman to run our country they should talk to the ones who are out in Iraq defending it. Women can do anything a man can do and just as well or even better. Therefore, to defy this thought and saying is absurd. No one stops those who make technology so up to date and elaborate so why stop a woman who wants to be president.

The Bold EAGIGER

The creature I chose to construct was a blend of a bald eagle and a white tiger. I chose a bald eagle to represent the body and strength of my creature because they represent the United States’ freedoms, spirit and pursuit of excellence. In a sense, I can relate this to the women of today. They are very free spirited and are always trying to pursue excellence so they can be treated with equality. Also, bald eagles are very precious because they are in fact becoming extinct. In a way, women are valued to one’s family and the society because they are the primary caregivers. In addition, I can describe myself as being very free spirited and always trying to become better by working harder. The other animal I chose to represent the feet of my creature was a white tiger. I chose to use the paws of the white tiger because their claws are an amazing aspect that make up this animal. The claws of the white tiger symbolize the strong trademark that makes them so agile. The strong morality is also seen in many women today. I believe that I have to be strong and stand up for myself or no one else will. Also, the background may seem unique for such an animal because neither of the white tiger nor the bald eagle would be found near a beach. However, this is where I as being the head of my creature come in. Since I grew up and live near the beach that is what I call home. Therefore, for a creature like this that probably would have trouble surviving in other environments, its home is where the beach is. Magical realism has helped me construct such a free spirited and strong animal that belongs somewhere. Additionally, it has allowed me to make something real out of something extraordinary.

Tender Buttons

I enjoyed reading Tender Buttons, but I found it hard to comprehend many of the things Stein was trying to explain. I think the text and the way that she worded the descriptions with such vivid adjectives made it very interesting. When writing my poems I tried to take her style into account by trying to develop a deep and convoluted description. In the beginning, I found it hard but once I wrote one I found it easier and enjoyable. I think I succeeded in writing the poems, but may have lacked the deep descriptions that Stein produces. I tried to go outside the box as much as I could by writing down descriptions with twisted meanings. In addition, I think I succeeded in re-writing the poems as I was doing the project. In fact I thought my poems sounded more appealing after I completed the project because they sounded more thorough.

Self Portrait 3

What I enjoy most about Impressionism is the bright vivid colors that catch my eye. When I look at the paintings I am intrigued with the backgrounds of shades of blue and other soft and bright colors. For my self portrait I was influenced by another Impressionistic painter, Claude Monet. Oeuvres de Claude Monet, was a picture painted of him by him. The picture is just him with a hat on but what make it so appealing are the strokes and colors of the background. It brings out him and helps the viewer focus on the center of the picture. Therefore, in my picture I decided to add the vibrant colors in the background to brighten up the picture and focus more on me. My process was painting the background several colors to bring about the center of the picture itself. When you brighten the background the center object is revealed more and becomes more obvious. I decided not to add and objects to the picture because when I think of impressionism I see a bright background with real objects or people depicted in it.

Comic Strip Quilt

I believe that using images rather than words helps portray a story more thoroughly. It is easier to tell a story using color, vivid images, and art work to explain events. In addition, I believe that telling a story using images helps someone understand it because words can only tell so much, or a picture is worth a thousand words. I enjoyed drawing the comic strip and I believe people can appreciate my story more by visually by looking at it. I also would rather look at someone's life story in using pictures rather than reading it in words. I think it helps one explain more detail about the story that they are trying to tell. My grandparents came from Estonia all the was to the United States during the second world where. There they settled in Toms River, New Jersey and are still living here today. If they didn't come to American I believe I wouldn't be living here today.

Women's House

My building, Women’s House, is shaped like a castle with rooms that adhere to women’s everyday needs. The rooms include a workout room, a king size bed room, a kitchen with a healthy variety of foods, a spa and salon, a study/TV room and even a tanning room. Therefore, a woman does not even need to leave the house and rush around to meet her needs. It is shaped like a castle because it is a sturdy and regal type of building, to represent women and her inner most beauty. Each room is equipped with the women’s everyday needs. For example, the bathroom is filled with beauty products to match up to any women’s need and the restaurant is filled with a healthy but tasty variety of foods. The outside of the house is surrounded by flowers, and protected from any one who wants to take the women’s house away. The strengths of the house are that it offers a wide variety of rooms that meet a women’s need therefore she does not even need to leave the Women’s House to get her errands done. The weakness of the house can be that it may be a little to old fashion, because of the castle like structure, however it was built to show the strength that women has. In addition, it shows how women’s needs should be protected and not taken from her.
